Early Monday AM Notes

POSSIBLE PICKUPS…
QB Jake Delhomme
Carolina won’t play a 4for4.com Top-15 rated defense until week 11. If you grab Jake now and he’s really kicking it in week ten after games against the Falcons and Titans, consider trading Jake and demand plenty in return. You might be able to pull a classic buy-low, sell-high move.
QB Ben Roethlisberger
Three favorable games on the schedule over the next 9 weeks and the Pittsburgh offense will be passing more than last year.
QB Alex Smith
If you like the way he looks Monday night, give Alex Smith some consideration. The 49ers play STL in Week #2 and Jake Delhomme had his way with the Rams.
QB David Garrard
Jacksonville has six favorable games over the next nine weeks. In addition to some nice deep balls, Garrard will also pick up points with his legs, especially near the goal line.
QB Matt Schaub
If you can stash him for your playoff run, give it a look.
Larry Johnson Tip
Naturally you won’t find him on the waiver wire! But you might be able to take full advantage of a worrywart in your league. If you didn’t draft KC’s Larry Johnson, try to wrangle him away in a trade at the end of week 5. At that stage, KC will have played the Bears, Jaguars and Chargers – all are Top-5 4for4.com defenses. Even Larry Johnson will have a hard time putting up consistent numbers against that schedule. You might be able to steal LJ at that point! But here’s the real kicker… in critical weeks 15 and 16, KC faces the Titans and Lions – two of the bottom-3 ranked defenses! At that stage the KC o-line should be improved and have more chemistry. Having Johnson in those two matchups could be the edge you need to win your championship in 2007.
RB Derrick Ward
He showed a nice first step yesterday against the Cowboys and Brandon Jacobs could be out for 2 weeks or more. The Giants have always been high on Ward but his nagging injuries have always held him back. This is clearly his chance and the door is wide open.
RB Mike Pittman
Carnell Williams is already dinged and it’s going to be a long season. Williams has bruised ribs. For a RB, there's not much worse. In turn, it doesn't take much imagination to see how Pittman could be the go-to RB mid-way into the season. The Bucs schedule starting in week nine gets sweet. For the next eight weeks of the season the best defense they’ll face is the Saints – a team 4for4.com ranks 23rd best (out of 32). If Williams stays down, you could be thriving in the 2nd half of the season with Pittman, especially in leagues that award for each catch.
RB Chris Brown
Week #1 may have been his best game of the year, but still he’s worth stashing on your roster as a backup. On the down side, Brown has always been an upright runner so don’t count on him staying healthy all season.
WR Ronald Curry
He’s no fluke and Oakland will be passing plenty this year. Curry could be a man among the Raiders ruins this year. The key stat was his 10 receptions in week one! That’s an excellent leading predictor. If Curry is still somehow available in your league, grab him.
WR Wes Welker
Randy Moss’ week #1 effort should only help Welker pile up more receptions. As an excellent slot receiver, Welker is a perfect fit for New England’s possession passing system.
WR Brandon Marshall
His stock is on the rise in Denver but he’ll likely only make your starting lineup as your third receiver when you need bye week help.
WR Amani Toomer
If you really need to reach, give the Giants #2 WR a look. The Giants will need to pass plenty this year and Toomer is often in man coverage.
