Five dogs!

People who are overly sensitive to noise should live in isolation. Ditto people who are sent into shock with the slightest whiff of fragrance or smoke or whatnot.

People with five dogs, as the bitchy neighbor who brought charges against a family whose 5 and 11 year old girls were making too much noise at the pool, should be put in isolation, preferably with sleeveless jackets.

The sound of children playing is the sound that should be heard in areas where people live.

Well, I dunno ... right now any "sniffing" that happens causes me to sneeze. My eyes water. I finally have to leave the room (unless I'm at work, of course) because I have an allergic reaction.

Crazy thing is, I used to douse myself in perfume! Go figure.

... and now off to church ... (well, the hair should probably get dried first) ...

Patty,

I am also a super sniffer, and the way to get over the constant barrage of aroma is to delve deeper into it. Take it apart. Find the layers. Try to identify all of the aspects of the smell.

I will warn you, it will totally change how you approach smell, but it might make you into a fanatic. You will get to where you will be trying to identify bean origin in your espresso blend (and noticing those same olfactory notes when your espresso, uh, seeks the ocean), guessing the origin of the wrapper, binder, and filler of a passing cigar, trying to figure out what source the nearby car's biodiesel came from. However, smells that once seemed simply irritating, will not bother you, rather they will become a veritable playground.

Of course I cannot guarantee that you won't end up working for someone trying to take apart a competitor's recipe. It is fun and can be quite financially rewarding as well. But it is better than simply noticing a smell and letting it bug you.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

I understand your fury and yes, sounds of children playing should be a welcome thing. It is the sound of happiness, really. It is total joy and I find it wonderful.

But I have to say that I find scents to be very difficult; I'm a musician and there were times this past year when it was as if someone in the front row of the audience had bathed in the strongest perfume ever and I was forced to swallow it every time I took a breath. So I'm not sure about the scents thing. (And I can smell cigarette smoke a mile away. I guess my nose works quite well.)

Anyhoo ... just landed at your site a few days ago and I think we live somewhat near each other. I probably landed here because of my google alerts that come when someone blogs about classical music.

Best to you-
patty
