Funny Search Request...

To the person looking for "prison recipes":

Please tell me that you are not nostalgic.

According to the audio tour at Alcatraz, the food there was pretty good. The federal prison code mandated that it be decent, and the wardens followed this. I am curious as to how it would stand up to 2007 scrutiny, as our post-War cuisine was a low point in the American palate. I know that late twentieth century dorm food was an abomination, though, and I cannot imagine that mid-century prison fare was much better (nor could it be much worse - I remember "Parent's Night" my freshman year, when the chicken was still slightly raw in the middle. If that is what they served on the "show the parents that the food is really not bad and the kids are just exaggerating" night, you can imagine what we had the rest of the time).

Lost Recipe Request

I have been looking for a recipe for some time now. The last time I had it was back in the 70's at a dinner party. I believe the name of it was "On Top of Ole Smokey." I only remember that there were many dishes of food. Everyone had to assemble the "mountain" the same way. I believe it started with a layer of rice, then chicken. There were, maybe, seven layers. The premise is that once all the dishes went around everyone would have a mound of food that would resemble a pyramid shaped mountain and then dig in and eat. I do not remember the sequence of food, much less the rest of the assortment. I believe there were also chow mein noodles and pineapple. Nonetheless, I am in search of said recipe if anyone would be able to email me the recipe or a website to pursue further. My email is lostandfound@woh.rr.com for any suggestions. Thank you in advance.
