Update
I am still alive and well, but having to deal with stuff that takes priority (long story, but my mother is in the hospital (in Portland, Oregon, where we were for a family reunion) with pneumonia. She is responding well to antibiotics, but will probably be in there for a couple more days. Prayers appreciated).
I am planning on some new posts tomorrow or Saturday (including some 419 fun - hopefully my contact has not despaired too much of my silence). I will also post some on why I love Portland. A great city, probably the best in the nation, for a number of reasons.

Yes, do tell about Oregon. I'm on the East Coast but have a good friend in Portland whom I should visit.
Foodie Note: made a London Broil on the grill (gas...too lazy to fire up the charcoal) last nite. Delicious. I believe soy sauce is the best marinade for steak, no? (I jazzed up the marinade w/ garlic, ginger, and purple onion) My Oregon buddy's dad gave me the soy sauce marinade idea back in college. Side dishes included steamed broccoli seasoned w/ lemon juice, sliced homegrown tomatoes w/ salt n pepper, and rice flavored w/ just a micron of sesame oil. And some red zinfandel, I think, to drink.

Sorry to hear about your mother - she is a sweet and gracious lady and I will include her in my prayers. OHSU is an excellent teaching hospital - and there are many other fine medical institutions in that city.
Portland OR reminds me of what San Francisco was like before certain special interest groups took it over. I hope that you were able to get to the Saturday market at least once!
