Blog Spam
I have been deleting spam comments and banning the IP's. Unfortunately I lost one of the numbers that I was going to put on here, so if you spammed me last night and find that one of your IP numbers still works, please let me know so that I can ban you.
I am up to something like 60 banned IP numbers, almost all of them for spamming. I am quite tolerant of most anything, but spam and sedevacantism go too far.
Reading spam is probably some great cultural barometer, though. Reading said barometer is probably a task better left to some grad student with a grant and a lot of time on his hands. I would do it, but it is a sunny day and the goats need feeding!

I have no idea. I am not a techie. I bet Jeff Miller can tell you, as he seems to be much more on top of this stuff than I.
Posted by: Erik Keilholtz at May 2, 2004 11:39 PMWhere can I download this MT blacklist?? It sounds most useful.
Posted by: Jonathan Lee at May 2, 2004 7:32 PMJust installed MT Blacklist! Hope it helps...
Hmm...did I hear someone say, "Paella"? Just kidding!
Posted by: ann at April 30, 2004 12:55 PMAnother happy user of MT-Blacklist here. It is so delightful to see it catch more spam comments every time I update its blacklist.
MT-Blacklist can be installed in about ten minutes, so it wouldn't be too much of an imposition.
The next version of MT, 3.0 will have these features included.
Posted by: Jeff Miller at April 28, 2004 4:57 PMStephen,
You see, pink mochi is a friend who does all of this for me for food (design, hosting, etc.), so I have to be very conservative in asking for favors. Also, she makes me pay in paella, or other such complex dishes, so if I am not careful, I am going to have to spend a day a week in Santa Cruz making souffle and other such dishes. I have heard of this blacklist thing (I love the name - does it automatically delete messages with "Pete Seeger" in them? If so, I am going to have to get it). It sounds like a good thing indeed.
Posted by: Erik Keilholtz at April 28, 2004 2:03 PMAsk your pink mochi to upgrade your MT and install MT-blacklist. It works great and distributes the fun of IP banning. Either that, or hang out for MT3.0 - it's supposed to have better spam-handling features.
