Silly Quiz Time
There are a couple of quizzes floating around, and neither one of them is something I need to take to know the answer.
I am neither Yankee nor Dixie, but Californian. That Mason-Dixon stuff happened on the other side of the Sierra, and I make it a point not to dabble in foreign affairs. I probably tend to sympathize with the Southerners, though, because they never had the Puritans, nor Harvard, and they give us tobacco, Faulkner and bourbon. They also have New Orleans, which is my kind of town, in a non-Californian, non-Italian my-kind-of-town sort of way.
As for which mad historical leader I am either Emperor Norton, Cola di Renzo, or perhaps Alfredo Stroessner (is he still alive?).
And I don't need no stinkin' quiz to tell me these things!

Unfortunately you need to have a still, access to the right kind of cherries, and the know-how, as kirschwasser is nothing more than a clear eau-de-vie of cherries. The best are imported, although Clear Creek in Oregon makes an acceptible one. The only thing that I can think of would be to steep cherries in grappa, but I cannot guarantee the results, and it would be sweet, while kirsch is bone dry.
If you keep having trouble finding some, I can ship you a bottle.

I am getting ready to go to the grocery and pay way too much for 'strawberries' that were shipped from california. I am serving chocolate fondue and must have strawberries - even if they are more pretty than tasty.....
Erik - do you have a recipe for making Kirsch? I have not been able to find any decent stuff here.
but the quizzes are so fun!

I believe that the Emperor Norton motif would fit you well. If only you would start printing your own money with your picture on it....
