Music in the time of Dante

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area on October 29th, I will be giving a presentation on Music in the Time of Dante at the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, relating the musical trends of the period to how Dante uses music in the Divine Comedy. It is free and the fun begins at 7:30pm. Come one come all!

Wow, Alicia, if he is a third order Franciscan in San Francisco, then he surely must know Amalia's godmother, who made her SFO profession last year. I am sure he also would know the National Shrine of St. Francis and Br. Robert. There will be some specifically Franciscan content, but for the most part it will be strictly Dantisti.

And Alicia is right, I will feed any St Blog's folks, and will even give the grand tour of the Bay Area, if you have time (or an abridged tour if you don't). Just let me know so I can make arrangements in my schedule. Late October is a particularly good food time for me.

I will try to tell my oldest child's godfather about this. He is a talented singer and a third order Francisican living in the city.
Oh, and folks - Erik is serious sbout the good meal - he even made his living room available to us as a sleeping place on our summer odyssey last year. Amalia is as cute and well-behaved as he describes, and the lovely Melanie is indeed lovely and courteous.

Well, Jenny, Steven, and all the rest of you East Coasters (as well as the West/Midwest/etc. folks), you always have an open invitation to a good meal and a martini (which Leta Miller did not serve after her Ars Nova lectures. hint. hint. - if you have to ask, this is not directed at you).

I would love to be there, too, but unfortunately I am also in Florida. The San Francisco Bay Area is amazing. We have friends who live in northern California and we love the area.

Too bad, Steven, as late October is a great time for food in the Bay Area! I will post my notes on the blog, as they might be of interest to someone with insomnia. You are in Florida, so you have a very good excuse. I have friends in Santa Cruz who will not come, and will come up with some sort of excuse like, "I hated that early music crap when we had to study it in Music History. Why would I drive an hour and a half to hear more of it?"

Dear Erik,

I wish I could be there. I'm sure it would be wonderful. Best of luck to you in your presentation and regrets that I sha'n't be able t attend.

shalom,

Steven
