Erik's Rant

I need a new browser!

I really hate the ie browser that comes bundled with AOL. People have recommended non-IE, non-Netscape browsers to me before, but I do not remember which ones. I would really appreciate any recommendations on this, as I hate what this one does to my site, and one of my favorite sites, Flos Carmeli is rendered almost completely unreadable by this stupid browser.

So, if anyone has had any great experiences with some of the free browsers out there, please let me know. Thanks. Obrigado. Grazie. Dankesehr.

I'm going to have to agree with the previous comments and recommend Mozilla, I switched to it this summer and it's great. Now the next project is to get you to give up AOL...

I have used Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, and IE.

I am currently using one called MyIE which uses the core of the IE engine so that pages render correctly but it adds tabbed windows, mouse gestures, and many other customizations.

Dear Erik,

Mozilla, which is not only free, but also opensource (Praise God!) displays Flos Carmeli fine on my machine at home. It does tend to get a little glitchy with javascript apps, and I abandoned it at work because it would really mess up blogger templates by saving code strangely. Haven't tried using Movable Type engine on it yet. I would guess given different set up, it's probably fine.

Mozilla forms the kernel of the Netscape browser, but from my experience it has been more stable and slightly more reliable.

Mozilla is found at mozilla.org.

I've tried to fix the site, but when it's fixed on one browser, it goes haywire on another--the difficulties of DHTML with more sophisticated stylesheets--so basically I gave up trying to fix it. I also haven't bothered Jeff Miller with the fact that half of his blog doesn't display on the browser at work. I think the z setting is not properly interpreted throught he mac browser. But then, what do you do?

My blog diplays fine on IE 6 running on XP(which I do not have problems with) and so far on Mozilla.

Opera is also another very fine browser that used to have a free version with an annoying add bar that stayed up in the navigation area. But still, solid build and some nice extras--mouse gestures etc.

shalom,

Steven
