Friday Five 1. Name one

Friday Five

1. Name one song you hate to admit you like.

"Hotel California"

2. Name two songs that always make you cry.

"Lamento della Ninfa" by Claudio Monteverdi
"Bess You is My Woman Now/I Loves You Porgy" by George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin and Dubose Hayward. My favorite operatic recording in the Houston Grand Opera's

3. Name three songs that turn you on.

"Corazon de Cristal" by Priscilla y sus balas de plata
"Nobody Loves Me" by Portishead
"Deutschland uber Alles...just kidding.
"Dido's Lament" from Dido and Aeneas by Hank Purcell

4. Name four songs that always make you feel good.

"Cry Me a River" as sung by, hmmmm, Peggy Lee at her prime, maybe. julie London, I don't know.
"Brasil" by Xavier Cugat, but performed by Antonio Carlos Jobim on "Stone Flower"
"Manha de Carnaval" from the Orfeu Negro soundtrack
"Manteca" by Dizzy Gillespie.

Since I am in a good mood, I will give you four more

"Just A Closer Walk with Thee" - not sure which version I like the best. Maybe Aubrey Ghent, maybe Turk Murphy, not sure.
"East of the Sun, West of the Moon" performed by Stan Getz and Kenny Barron on People Time
"Polka Dots and Moonbeams" performed by Dexter Gordon
"La Brunetta" and I like just about every version of this Italian folk song. My favorite is when Melanie and I sing it to Amália and she responds with a big baby grin.

5. Name five songs you couldn't ever do without.

"Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash
"Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard
"Bloomdido" by Charlie Parker
"La combatimento di Tancredi e Clorinda" by Claudio Monteverdi
"Angelina/Zooma Zooma" by Louis Prima.
